Encourage Mindfulness

Mindfulness is simply observing what’s occurring in the present moment, without judging or overthinking it. When clients consider trying new skills, their anxiety about “how they’ll look”, “doing it right”, or “messing up” can really get in the way of their progress. Encourage them to consider that the person paying the most attention is THEM. Give them a focal point to consider as they try the new exercise or skill, and keep cuing them to focus on small details, their breathing, or whatever so they’ll “forget themselves” and get in the flow of the movement.
